Outside Reading & Project
To encourage students to explore literature, students are required to read one book of choice each month and complete one simple project from the thirty-five project options. Twenty-five minutes is provided on most Fridays to allow for silent reading. Students are encouraged to read the book they are using for this project to help with this assignment. The projects are simple and should not be very time consuming. The first Book Project is due by October 14.
Every marking period students are responsible for producing twenty journal entries. Twelve of the entries should consist of a one full page written entry, while the remaining eight should consist of drawings, photos, or printouts with a two to four sentence description. Each entry must have the date in the upper right corner, followed by the entry number, and a title centered on the top line. The focus of this assignment is not on spelling and grammar, rather on effort and completion. Students are encouraged to write about a variety of topics. Every Monday, ten minutes will be provided in class to help with this assignment and a suggested topic will be given. Typically, students should be able to complete about half of this assignment during class. Happy Writing!
